Private owners can currently receive between 30% and up to 80% grant funding for an eligible heat pump. For DIY installations, directly related material costs may also qualify. Funding rates are guaranteed for 36 months from the application date

KfW funding is limited and has already been reduced in some areas. An application secures funding for the project for 36 months.
We also support planning and applications for projects over the next three years.

Why act now?

New grant conditions have applied since 21 July 2026. For the first residential unit, a maximum of €28,000 in eligible costs is currently taken into account. This maximum first decreases on 1 February 2027 and subsequently
by €750 every six months.

Funding rates are guaranteed for 36 months from the application date.

Following grant approval, you usually have up to 36 months to complete the project and submit the required evidence.

How much heat pump funding is available in 2026?

Since 21 July 2026, support has been staggered more strongly according to the taxable household income.

Income up to 30,000 €
For households with taxable annual income up to €30,000, the income bonus is intended to increase, allowing up to 80% funding immediately after the reform takes effect.
Up to €28,000 of eligible costs, this corresponds to a maximum funding of up to €22,400.

Income from 30.001 € to 40.000 €
Under the new model, this income group retains an income bonus. Up to 70% funding is possible immediately after the reform takes effect.
With €28,000 eligible costs, this corresponds to a maximum funding of up to €19,600.

Income from 40,001 € to 50,000 €
This income group is intended to qualify again, with a planned income bonus of 10%. This allows up to 56% funding immediately after the reform takes effect.
With €28,000 eligible costs, this corresponds to a maximum funding of up to €15,680.

Income from 50.001 €
For households without an income bonus, funding of up to 46% is planned immediately after the reform takes effect.
With €28,000 eligible costs, this corresponds to a maximum funding of up to €12,880.

Child allowance for families
Where at least one child under 18 lives in the household, taxable household income is to be reduced by €10,000 for the assessment.
This can place families in a more favourable funding band and increase the available grant.
Example: A household with a child and a taxable annual income of € 50,000 is treated as if the income were € 40,000.

Install your own heat pump and receive up to 80% grant funding

Yes. Private owners, businesses and municipalities can access KfW funding.
Important: your own labour is not eligible for grant funding.
Materials, accessories, planning, technical documentation and many project-related services required for replacing the heating system are eligible.

Which costs are eligible?

These include, for example:
• Heat pump and heating technology
• Accessories and installation materials
• Planning and system design, such as heat load calculations and hydraulic balancing
• Improvements to heat emitters, including new or adapted underfloor heating and suitable radiators
• Necessary associated works for replacing the heating system, such as a proportion of the cost of renewing the meter cabinet
